The year long class described below is full for 2011. It will be offered again and is included FYI.
four seasons - four directions walking the path of our true nature by being in the right place at the right time
an art class in four parts with Kathleen O’Brien
On a
Saturday preceding the Solstices and Equinoxes of 2011, in a celebratory manner we will enjoy learning about the cycles of
the year, its seasons and directions, origins of the holidays, holy days and
world wisdom traditions, rhythms of the sun and moon. we talk about how that can relate in a practical
way to living a meaningful life – one that is aware, respectful, and creatively
responsive to our natural surroundings.
From this focus you will create a loose-leaf folio
of works on paper – a spiritual journal of writings, collage, drawing, – what
is authentically your expression. At the
end of the year, you will have a guidebook to navigate through time and space.
You will receive an archival portfolio box to
store your treasures, and calendars listing celebrations for the 3 months of
each season and other handouts about cycles and traditions.
more about the class: When centered in the heart accepting the present moment, we are in the right place at the right time. This is our true direction. From this perspective we can authentically orient ourselves to space and time. We can navigate the path of the true human being and map our progress through the cycles of life creatively.
Each of the four seasons and four directions exudes its own energy by which we can experience life most authentically within our true nature. Autumn, West is a time and place for preserving our harvest and turning inward; Winter, North is a time and place for rest, reflection, and dreaming; Spring, East is a time and place for planting and illumination; Summer, South is a time and place of lightheartedness and activity. Being aware and in the flow of natural cycles and knowing where we stand teaches us how to pace ourselves and pays homage to our souls and the earth.
We learn about weekly, lunar, & solar cycles and expand our knowledge to grasp larger astrological cycles and the cosmologies of the Celtic, Meso-American and Egyptian cultures. Along the way we encounter the many ways humans have celebrated these events. From this, we will find a deep appreciation for the global celebrations revered for thousands of years, and more importantly, available to us in the present moment. We integrate this in our life through art.
We will embark on a journey to explore these cycles, experience our inner space with creative meditations. Think of this as creating a container for your soul. We will express our unique orientation to this path in works on paper – writings, collage, drawing and painting. You will create your own loose leaf folio, your personal map through time and space that will continue to guide you into your future. Think of it as creating a container for your wisdom.
